Curriculum
The curriculum may be described as streams of experience beginning in the first year of the child's schooling and continuing throughout his/her school life.
"Jesus time" is an integral part of each day's program as the child learns from Bible stories and videos of God's love and forgiveness of sins through Jesus the Savior. "Jesus time" includes a weekly chapel/worship time in the sanctuary, led by our pastor. We have a booklet, "What Lutheran's Teach," which explains clearly the doctrines of the Lutheran Church and our congregation. It is available is you would like to have more information about our church. Children have Chapel with Pastor once a week at 9:15. Wednesday for 4/5 year-olds and Thursday for 3/4 year-olds. |
Play is the child's work for the most part. Motor development involves good muscle coordination and direction in controlling and handling the body. This development is encouraged through activities for large muscles, hand-eye coordination, creative movement, and small activities. We learn through our senses using a wide variety of manipulative materials, games, exercises, and books. Science experiences include experimenting, exploring, solving problems, nature walks, observing animals, plants, clouds, etc. Art and music encourage self-expression, good listening habits, body movement, and dramatization. |
Oral language and speech flow from activities within the classroom.
We do have some "paper-work" which allows us to work with the children on writing and cognitive skills. This allows us to see the proper handling of pencils and other writing utensils, difficulties that can be addressed as they process learning areas, etc. Please do not expect a lot of paperwork coming home as a lot of learning is "hands-on" learning, especially for the 3-4 year old class. |
