What door do I go in?
Most people park in the lot on the east side of the building and enter through the double doors. From there, you will continue walking straight ahead to the sanctuary. You may also park along East B Street or Rio Vista and enter through the “front” doors, which are very close to the sanctuary.
What should I wear?
Some people choose to wear their “Sunday best” and others choose to dress more casually.
What about children?
We welcome families with children and enjoy hearing children “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” during the service. Children are encouraged to be active participants in the Divine Service and we encourage you to assist your children in sitting, standing, folding hands in prayer, and reading words in the hymnal when old enough. We have coloring sheets available on the pew in the narthex as you enter the sanctuary to help engage your children in God’s Word. A children’s message is given by Pastor on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. If children become restless during the service, we have a cry room available in the back of the sanctuary.
How can I follow along with the service?
You will be given a bulletin as you enter the sanctuary. In the pew you will find the hymnal Lutheran Service Book. The right hand edge of the bulletin lists the order of worship from the hymnal for that day with corresponding page numbers to guide you along. If our style of worship is new or different to you, we encourage you to give it some time. The liturgy of the Lutheran service is something our members treasure as it points us to Christ and tells the story of our salvation.
What is communion all about and do I participate?
Every other Sunday, we celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion. We believe and teach the Real Presence of Christ- His body and blood in the Sacrament for our forgiveness and nurture. In the Sacrament, we are joined in a very close, personal and intimate way with Christ and with one another as we receive the bread and wine, the body and blood of our Savior Jesus Christ. We believe that when a person partakes of the Sacrament, he or she is also confessing his or her unreserved agreement with the doctrine and practice that is proclaimed from the altar and pulpit of which the Sacrament is administered. We therefore ask that all visitors and guests who may wish to receive the Sacrament or discuss Closed Communion kindly speak to an Elder or the Pastor at a convenient time.
How do I become a member?
If you are looking for a church home, we would love to have you join our family. If you are already a confirmed member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, you may join by transfer or reaffirmation of faith. For those new to the Lutheran Christian faith, we offer an adult instruction class. The adult instruction class offers a great opportunity for individuals to learn more about Lutheran Christian teachings (doctrine), either as a refresher from their confirmation instruction or in preparation to join the Lutheran Church. Please talk with Pastor or call the church office if you are interested in attending!
